Solvent Based Solid Acrylic Resin For OPP/BOPP Labels & PET Packaging Inks

  Achieving strong, long-lasting adhesion to PET (polyethylene terephthalate), BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene), and OPP (oriented polypropylene) substrates is a major challenge for the coatings, inks, and adhesives industries. These materials are widely used in packaging films, OPP/BOPP labels, and printing applications due to their excellent clarity, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength. However, their low surface energy and chemical inertness make effective bonding with traditional resins challenging. To address this challenge, specially designed acrylic resins have emerged as an effective solution, providing reliable adhesion combined with durability and processing advantages.

  Acrylic resins are versatile materials whose molecular structures can be tailored to improve surface interactions with low-energy substrates such as PET, BOPP, and OPP. By incorporating polar functional groups (such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, or acrylate groups) into the polymer backbone, acrylic resins can form stronger interfacial bonds with already durable plastic surfaces. Their excellent film-forming properties ensure uniform coating coverage, while their chemical and weathering resistance enhance the durability of printed or coated films.

Product Description

  SA-523 is a functional acrylic resin based on MMA and n-BMA polymers that offers numerous advantages for use in OPP/BOPP labels and PET inks, particularly for applications requiring strong adhesion to low-surface-energy films. Its excellent color development and dispersion ensure vibrant and uniform printing results, while its high glass transition temperature (70°C) and good toughness provide a balance of hardness and flexibility to prevent cracking in flexible packaging films. Solid Acrylic Resin SA-523’s strong adhesion, including good metal adhesion, enhances print durability and peel resistance on polyolefin and polyester substrates, while its excellent weatherability ensures long-lasting performance even under environmental stress. These properties enable solvent based acrylic resin SA-523 to enhance the visual quality and durability of inks used in OPP/BOPP labels and PET packaging applications.
